Practices begin this week!

We kick off Thriller dance practices this week. We’ll have practices every Friday evening, 6-8 pm, and Sunday afternoon, 2-4 pm, right through October 25th, the evening before the dance.

We’ve got awesome new instructors this year – we’re very excited to introduce Chalaina and Dano.  It will be the regular ol’ instructors from years past during our first weekend, and we’re going to start out slow over the first two practices. Come warm up your Thriller bones with us!

You can attend as many or as few practices as you like. You can learn it at home using youtube instructional videos (do  a search on INESSENS). Our practices are optional, relaxed, and students decide how far and how fast we move through the dance.

Practices are held at 2620 NE Fremont. No drama, just fun and dancing!

“When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It’s to enjoy each step along the way.”
— Wayne Dyer

We’re the Portland outpost of the international ‘Thrill the World’ simultaneous Thriller dance! We dance our zombie pants off every October in Portland.

This is our seventh year dancing together as Thrill the World Portland. So many zombie events in Portland serve only to line the pockets of the organizers, but we are proud to be a fundraiser for SMYRC, Portland’s Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center (www.smyrc.org). We are humbled by the great work they accomplish for & with queer youth in town, and grateful for the opportunity to support the organization.

We’ll be scheduling Thriller dance practices once autumn rolls around. We expect to begin practices in late September. While there are other Thriller dance events around town, we are the only official Thrill the World event in Portland. Join us in working to break the record for the most folks dancing simultaneously around the world in a single dance!

Everyone can participate – no matter your age or ability level. We have dancers from  wee to seventy (and above). Zombie costumes not required, though most folks gore themselves up beforehand.

(You are MORE than welcome to host your own practices with friends outside of these – just download the script and videos from www.thrilltheworld.com, or hunt up the instructional videos on youtube by doing a search on the term INESSENS).
We strongly encourage this for those who already know the dance but need a refresher, and who want to recruit others to join in the fun. If you do host your own practice, send us a note so we can keep track of how much space we might need to dance.

For more information, seek us out at facebook.com/thrilltheworld.portland or email us at ttwpdx@gmail.com. Happy Thrilling, zombies!
